Wrestler History: Daron Foley has been wrestling since he was able to walk. He and his older brother Jeff would often scuffle as children. And although he was smaller and younger, Daron would usually come out on top. It was at that young age that Daron realized he had a knack for wrestling. In high school, Daron joined the wrestling team as soon as he was able. He made the provincial championships his first year, but lost when he sprained his ankle slipping on a patch of ice getting off the bus. The next year, Foley returned to the provincial championships, tougher and hungrier. That year, he defeated his first opponent in record time, en route to his first provincial championship. He would continue to dominate provincial wrestling for his high school career, and was courted by many Canadian and American universities. He chose to attend school in his own country, and was one of many great wrestlers to attend Hamilton's McMaster University. Unlike his teammates however, Foley also chose to study the pro aspects of the sport. He found a trainer in Hamilton, who helped Foley to learn how to wrestle in a squared circle. That trainer saw something special in Foley, and sent him to Ron Hutchinson's Wrestling School in Toronto. But Foley didn't ignore his collegiate obligations, and found time to concentrate on his amateur career at the same time. His team were all skilled, and due to the high caliber of teammates, Foley's abilities blossomed. Foley won his first CIAU championship in his third year, and repeated the next. Upon graduating with an honours English-History BA, Foley found himself at a crossroads. He finally decided to stay upon the path he had chosen years before, and turned to pro wrestling. He started his career using pseudonyms in smaller federations like the EWF, WIWF, and WCIW. It wasn't until he joined the AWA, Armageddon Wrestling Alliance, that he embraced his real name, and made his mark on the world of wrestling. In his first month, Foley was a finalist in the Lord of the Ring tournament, losing due to outside interference. Not to be deterred, Foley kept fighting, and became InterContinental champion. While personal problems forced Foley to take a hiatus from the AWA, he always knew that he would return to wrestling, and return in a big way. That chance came as Foley was traveling North America, enjoying some time off. He met an executive from the AICW, who saw Foley's raw talent and ability. Foley knew that this could be his chance to show the world what he was capable of. And now that Foley is here in the AICW, he also realizes that he is fighting for the dignity of all those wrestlers who have toiled in obscurity for so long. He knows where he has come from, and he will always hold on to his memories from those days. They are what fuels his desire, and what drives him to compete.
Wrestler Profile: Daron Foley has a background in amateur wrestling, and uses those simple, yet effective moves in the ring. However, Foley also knows the basics of ring wrestling, and melds the two different styles to his advantage. He is able to match opponents hold for hold, and move for move. He has the size and strength to take it to the air when necessary, but prefers to keep his action on the ground. He knows that he cannot overpower every opponent he faces, and uses his speed and technical knowledge to keep them off balance and reeling. And if an opponent decides to turn the match into a fight, Foley is more than willing to fight fire with fire. He isn't afraid to use a closed fist, or the steel steps, when the situation calls for it. His finishing hold "The Dark Ride", evolved out of Foley's knowledge of the two wrestling schools. He knows that if he can immobilize his opponent, making it impossible for him to fight back, then victory is virtually guaranteed.

What would you do if you met OJ Simpson in a dark alley? | Edge carefully around him, saying "I'm not a waiter", all the while keeping my eyes on his hands. |
Who/what has been your biggest influence? | All the guys who I fought with and alongside while I was striving in the smaller feds. Those guys showed me the value of integrity and of determination. What is the worst thing that happened to you in your youth? | When I sprained my ankle in high school. I was having a great year, and I know I could have won the provincial championship. What is the worst pain you ever felt in your life? (physical/emotional) | The pain I felt when I let down my fans in high school |
If you could meet one person, at any point in history, who would it be? What would you say to them? | Muhammad Ali, when he was Cassius Clay, and had just won an Olympic Gold Medal. I would congratulate him, and ask him what he was feeling at that moment. I would also tell him that he was an inspiration to more people than he could ever realize, and ask him what advice he would give to a young man at the crossroads of his life. |
